Honouring Autism Heritage:

A Celebration of Inclusion, Culture, and Community in Manchester

Autism is often misunderstood, particularly within minority ethnic communities where cultural taboos and spiritual interpretations can obscure the medical and social understanding of neurodiversity. In many cases, stigma and shame have silenced families, isolating them from the resources and support systems that could change their lives.

At Dimobi Trust, we believe in turning silence into strength. By inviting families to share their stories, sing traditional songs, and teach childhood games that once brought joy to their homes, we are not only creating a living archive but also promoting healing and pride. Autism heritage, in this context, becomes a powerful tool for connection, empathy, and education.

Why Autism Heritage Matters

Our Work on the Ground

Since our founding, Dimobi Children’s Disability Trust has served as a lifeline to Manchester’s most underserved families. With a focus on disability, poverty, domestic violence, and social exclusion, we have grown into a hub of holistic care.

Our Thrive project provides a safe haven for carers and parents fleeing abusive households, offering emotional support, legal referrals, and trauma-informed care. We also run programs for children with complex needs, ensuring they receive developmental support in culturally sensitive environments. Through these efforts, we supported 1,981 families in 2022 alone, offering respite care, community integration, and wellness events that uplift and connect.

Honouring Autism Heritage

A Movement, Not Just a Project

This isn’t just about autism. It’s about belonging. It’s about bridging the gap between heritage and health, between isolation and empowerment.
We invite you to join us. Share in our exhibitions. Watch the stories. Support a community that is rewriting what it means to care, to include, and to honour difference.
