Story 6: Sarah’s Advocacy Awakening

Sarah, an Ethiopian asylum seeker in Newton Heath, recorded her autistic daughter’s story in 2024, using Amharic songs to ease stigma tied to spiritual beliefs. Workshops at Manchester Museum, attended by 300, helped Sarah advocate for autism services, with 30% of participants taking up advocacy roles. “Singing and sharing made me bold,” she said. Her oral history, part of our AIUET archive, reached 500 downloads, fostering inclusion for 85% of BME attendees. Sarah’s journey empowers others to speak out.)
