Who We Are
Founded in 2016, Dimobi Children’s Disability Trust is a grassroots charity supporting children with severe disabilities and their families across Manchester.
We work with communities experiencing disability, poverty, domestic violence and social exclusion, creating safe and supportive spaces where families can access practical support, build connections and feel a stronger sense of belonging.

OUR AUTISM HERITAGE PROJECT
Preserving stories.
Connecting generations.
Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, our autism heritage project was created to preserve the lived experiences, oral traditions and cultural narratives of neurodivergent young people and their families.
27 oral histories
Families from African, Caribbean, South Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds have shared deeply personal experiences of raising autistic children while navigating cultural misunderstanding and limited access to services.
Family Stories
Intergenerational conversations created space for families to share experiences and perspectives.
Traditional Songs
Families shared lullabies and songs from their cultural heritage.
A MOVEMENT, NOT JUST A PROJECT
From silence to Pride
What began as a response to silence has grown into a movement of pride, resilience and belonging.
Parents now gather through our monthly Parent Forum to share experiences, challenge barriers and shape future action. Young autistic voices that were once hidden are now appearing in mini-films and exhibitions, reaching audiences across the community.

Every story has the power

The stories collected through the project were created to be shared. Through exhibitions, schools, community activities and digital platforms, we have taken these experiences into spaces where they can inspire conversation and understanding.
